Mariska Pretorius thought she’d be the new face of global pop—radiant, joyful, and proudly South African. Born and raised in Cape Town, Mariska’s music was as vibrant and diverse as her hometown: modern pop hooks met the rhythms and soul of Africa, with every track a celebration of heritage, hope, and the beauty of home. But then nobody listened. What followed could be considered as collapse or reinvention. Mariska gave up her home, convinced she didn’t deserve it. She had failed, she’d gone soft. To rectify this, she moved into an abandoned warehouse in the industrial district and began fighting in an underground combat circuit. She learned various skills and trades, vowing to never be reliant on anyone but herself. She used her new found welding skills to make herself a crown and declared herself Queen of the Steelyard. Most of all, she learned to stop caring whether people listened to her music or not. She doesn’t want you to follow her. No More Streams.
